Techniques
In creating my fabric for quilts, I start by scouring for old pottery, tin, or anything that intrigues me with an unusual surface. Starting with 100% natural fiber cotton or silk, the fabric is fit to the unusual surface and rolled with a small paint roller, to get the fabric to fit taunt.

Now the fun begins with dyes; I usually start with a solid color first, then when dry, I apply contrasting color, also I like to keep my hues in the same color family. When I apply the second color I use a dry brush technique, with the dry brush, I create shading as well as highlights to the piece. I use three different shades of whatever color I am painting with- light, medium, dark. After the shading, the fabric is heat set; after curing, I wash the piece in orvus soap before I use it in a quilt. I also teach classes in this technique.

Utilizing dyed fabric and my inspiration, I design the art quilt by drafting on paper the pattern of a unique design. The pattern is then divided into pieces which are pieced together with a variety of my available fabrics to form the quilt top. The quilt top is machine quilted with a variety of beautiful threads to enhance and embellish the quilt top design.
