A grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts will support an art program at two elementary schools in Henry County.
The Arts Cultural Center (CAC) in Dothan announced Monday that it will continue its work to bring arts educators to Headland Elementary and Abbeville Elementary with a $4,000 grant from the state arts board.
ARTSmart 23 kicked off in October and will run until May 2023.
The Arts Cultural Center is entering its fifth year of integrating art educators at Headland Primary School and its third year at Abbeville Primary School.
Exploratory courses in visual arts will be given by artistic educators from the Center Culturel des Arts. Art educators work on carts in the classroom to provide lessons that help students explore a variety of art media and make connections to various content standards in math, science, and history. For the past two school years during the COVID protocols for schools, the Center Culturel des Arts has been providing these lessons to both schools through videos made on site at the CAC and then sent via links with supplies to school teachers to perform in classes. the best they could.

Prior to this, the Cultural Arts Center traveled in person to Headland Elementary to deliver these art classes in a dedicated classroom, interacting directly with students and staff.
This school year will be the first time that CAC arts educators will be able to travel to Abbeville Elementary School to interact and instruct students in art.
