Saltburn Cliff Lift art student’s painting goes on tour in UK
A postcard photo of a LOCAL art student is participating in a national exhibition that will tour train stations across the country.
A beautiful painting of the Saltburn Cliff elevator by a former fine arts student at the Middlesbrough campus of the Northern School of Art is featured in a UK-wide art exhibition.
Penny Tetlow’s work is one of a series of postcard images included in Network Rail’s âWish I was Thereâ exhibit which is on display at major train stations across the country throughout August. .
The exhibition aims to help reconnect UK citizens to the places they missed most during the lockdown.
It includes a range of works of art selected following a call launched earlier this year by Network Rail, inviting art students to submit their postcard designs for places they would think and say; “I would have loved to be there”.
Miss Tetlow, an alumnus of the Ian Ramsey C of E Academy in Stockton-on-Tees who studied the UAL Extended Diploma in Fine Art from the Northern School of Art from 2018 to 2020, said: âI have decided to submit a piece that I completed while studying at the School. It is taken from our Fine Art project, Shore Recollection which focused on Saltburn-by-the-Sea.
âThe project itself was meant to examine how the scenic beauty of Saltburn can be captured through media expression, something that really made me see beyond the place itself. So I submitted this piece of Saltburn and its Cliff Tramway to celebrate the Teesside, to entice tourists to visit our Teesside and allow them to see beyond its geographic stereotype and see what beauty it holds.
Network Rail’s Wish I was There tour dates are as follows:
- Liverpool Lime Street Station – August 9-15
- Leeds Station – August 16 – 22
- Glasgow Central Station – August 22-29
