Stan Douglas is a visual artist who lives and works in Vancouver and Los Angeles. Represented by the David Zwirner Contemporary Art Gallery, Douglas’ films, videos and photographs have been seen in national and international exhibitions, including documenta IX, X and XI (1992, 1997, 2002), four Venice Biennials ( 1990, 2001, 2005, 2019) and from 2014 to 2017, his theater-cinema hybrid, Helen Lawrence, has been performed in Vancouver, Toronto, Munich, Antwerp, Edinburgh, Brooklyn and Los Angeles. Last year he was named Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres de France and next year he will represent Canada at the 59th Venice Biennale. Between 2004 and 2006, Douglas was a professor at the Universität der Künste in Berlin and has been a faculty member of the ArtCenter Art Graduate Program since 2009.

Douglas said:

I look forward to my tenure as president of Grad Art. I took advantage of one of the few advantages of the moment to organize for the fall an extraordinary international list of speakers who will give lectures at a distance; and we recently developed a plan to increase our scholarship fund that will make our program more accessible to more diverse applicants, which is expected to materialize this fall. We also have the option of adding a new full-time faculty member and I’m excited to start this process around the same time.

Douglas is the most recent core faculty member to assume the role of chair.
