YARAT Contemporary Art Space has launched the first one-year Contemporary Art School in Azerbaijan in partnership with Icharishahar State Historical and Architectural Reserve.
The presentation took place in the Museum of Azerbaijani Painting of the 19th-21st.
Speaking at the event, Farah Alakbarli, curator of contemporary art space YARAT, highlighted the importance of the project in the development of contemporary art.
“In addition to organizing exhibitions and promoting contemporary art abroad for almost ten years, the contemporary art space YARAT has implemented many educational and research projects. During these years , new personnel were trained, experimental practices and works of art by emerging Azerbaijani artists were presented to the public, young talents take part in seminars and daily studio practices to generate new ideas and new works. I wish success to the project of the first one-year school of contemporary art in Azerbaijan,” said Farah Alakbarli.
Unique in the field of contemporary art, the pilot school project aims to become an important element of the country’s cultural landscape in terms of developing experimental education aimed at training young talents and promoting a program of professional job.
The main part of the school’s educational program will be the author’s concept, formed on the content of the intersection of historical traditions and current events in the field of culture and the arts.
The author of the concept is the curator of many exhibitions and projects also related to the education of young people in the field of contemporary art, the honored artist Sabina Shikhlinskaya.
The school of contemporary art will be located in the most important historical area of Azerbaijan, including the historical and architectural reserve of Icharishahar, the YARAT building used for work with young people within the framework of the ARTIM project.
The School’s program plans to implement theoretical and practical educational programs for multidisciplinary artists, art managers, curators and art researchers in the fundamental fields of contemporary art.
The basis of the training will include lectures and workshops by leading experts and specialists in their fields, curators and current artists, as well as artistic directors of local and foreign art institutions and organizations.
At the end of the school’s theoretical program, it is envisaged to organize cultural events and exhibitions in partnership with cultural organizations, galleries, creative centers and museums, located in the region of
Many public and artistic initiatives are planned to involve the inhabitants of the Old City in the creation of useful places for intellectual recreation. It invites not only local audience but also tourists visiting the country to discuss current needs and problems of modern society, combining local color and national historical traditions of Azerbaijan with popular culture.
The project of the Experimental School of Contemporary Art aims to form an educational platform for self-realization not only of established professionals, but also of young representatives of creative fields.
A documentary film “ÖN SÖZ – ON SÖZ”, dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the YARAT Contemporary Art Space was screened as part of the event.
In conclusion, some 29 students of the first one-year school of contemporary art in Azerbaijan, selected from 120 applicants, were introduced to the guests of the event.
